Volunteering
FOSTERING: Fostering homeless hounds is one of the most important
volunteering activities. Most foster assignments include dogs that we have
little information or background on and we need Basset savvy homes to house,
care for and assess the dog so we can properly match him with the right family,
where he'll stay the rest of his life - happy and loved. If you think you may be
interested in fostering,

page, which includes a link to an online Foster Application.
TRANSPORTING:
HDBR has transporting needs for just
Alabama for now. Most of the time, transport help includes meeting
someone to get a dog and transporting him to another volunteer, or perhaps to a
kennel or vet appointment. If the transport is for an adoption or vet
appointment, we are usually able to set it up a few days in advance. However,
many times our transport volunteers are called upon to do a transport with very
little notice, sometimes less than 24 hours, in instances when a dog must be
moved quickly, such as the dogs in shelters. If you're interested in
volunteering for transports, fill out the application form available at the
bottom of this page or send an email to
heartofdixiebhr@gmail.com or call and
leave a message at (334)240-1000.
HOME
VISITS:
We can never have enough volunteers to do home visits. Pre-adoption home
inspectors are needed throughout our coverage area so we will always have
somebody close by a potential adopter. Even if you live near one of our regular
volunteers, they can't always be available to do a home visit when needed.
Having many volunteers ensures that no single person is overburdened. If called
upon to do a home visit, you will be asked to download a home inspection form
that will lead you through the process and help you provide all the information
that we need to know about the home. If you would like to help with our
pre-adoption home inspections, please fill out the application form available at
the bottom of this page or send an email to
heartofdixiebhr@gmail.com or call and
leave a message at: (334)240-1000.
FUND-RAISING
ACTIVITIES:
Fund-raising is what allows Heart of Dixie Basset Rescue to provide the
necessary care and medical attention that the homeless Bassets need, and hard
working volunteers are the reason that these activities are successful. All
funds raised go directly to the care of our Rescued Basset Hounds, NO one at
HDBR is on a salary nor does anyone get compensated for personal expenses.
The HDBR Annual Waddle: Our biggest fund-raiser of the year is also the one that requires the largest number of volunteers. We will need:
* Raffle
Coordinators
* Setting-up before events
* Cleaning up after events
* Helping with the Basset Games and Contests
* Helping at the Bake Sale
* Grilling Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Veggie Dogs & Veggie Burgers
* Registration/Info Table help
* Helping at the Sales Table

If you would like to help with any of the yearly picnics, please fill out the application form available at the bottom of this page or send an email to heartofdixiebhr@gmail.com or call and leave a message at: (334) 240-1000.
